Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalms 119:105 (ESV)
It was the week of February 5th, 2021 when the very first edition of David’s Devotion was posted via social media, our website, and email to our donor database. I had no idea at that time if it would turn out to be anything more than a short-term project to inform our supporters that the head of Adult & Teen Challenge MidSouth did own a Bible and could, in fact, string together more than two of three coherent sentences if necessary. Now, 170+ editions later, I have shared random thoughts that have been hopefully either challenging or encouraging from 56 of the 66 books of the Bible.
Today’s edition with be the last offering of David’s Devotion. Over these many months, I have been blessed to received dozens of comments from those who have read one or more of my Sunday morning musings. They have been reflections on both what I have learned and what I’m in the process of understanding as a child of God. Some comments have offered good-natured “encouragement” in areas of grammar and/or spelling! Others have echoed appreciation, agreement or shared personal testimony supporting the theme of the day. Regardless of the motivation, the fact that anyone would write back has been a personal encouragement to me as I continue to write week after week realizing that there is, in fact, “someone out there”!
As we close out this Sunday morning ritual together, you might find it interesting that today is the 50th anniversary of the Sunday afternoon I was baptized in Watts Bar Lake. My road to faith in Jesus Christ was not as bumpy as some. I was blessed to be raised in church and the sentiment shared by the Psalmist above has been part of my personal belief since I learned to read. However, as a child, I had no idea where that “path” might lead and what I would experience along the way. Most of the thoughts I have shared over these months have been based on the lessons learned while walking the paths God has directed.
One thing I have come to understand is that, in our every circumstance, the light of God’s word can be trusted when the way grows dark!
Godspeed, Ya’ll!
